KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Former Kalamazoo Mayor Gilbert Bradley Jr. has passed away.
Bradley was a Howard University grad who got his Masters at WMU and stayed in the community, becoming Kalamazoo’s first African American Mayor from 1971 to 1972 and then Vice-mayor.
He later became an ordained minister and served in churches in Virginia, until retiring and returning back to Michigan.
Mayor Bobby Hopewell says Bradley opened a lot of doors and opportunities at City Hall.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two granddaughters.
Gilbert Bradley was 77.
