UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — Just in time for Memorial Day, and the kick-off of the summer tourism season, the average gas price is now over $3.00/gallon not only here in Michigan but nationally.
AAA of Michigan, and national Pollster Trilby Lundberg both have found gas prices averaging right on the $3 mark.
Lundberg says that’s a jump of 10-cents nationally in the last two weeks, due in part to the White House decision to pull out of the Iran deal and other seasonal factors.
But wherever the gas price stands, it’s not expected to impact what AAA is predicting will be record travel for the Memorial Day weekend.
Brenda Berry from AAA’s Portage Kalamazoo branch says the jump at the pump doesn’t matter to vacationers and nearly 1.3 million Michiganders will travel in some way this Memorial Day weekend, with 1.1 million of those hitting the roads.
