KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Community planting days are underway and Kalamazoo in Bloom is asking for volunteers to help beautify the Kalamazoo area.
The nonprofit organization is bringing back “Mike” the peacock and other topiary structures to Bronson Park, with some new additions as well.
Executive Director of Kalamazoo In Bloom Monika Trahe says the displays will feature lots of colors with no set pattern this year.
Hundreds of volunteers come together to transform these spaces, and volunteer bed gardners will maintain the flowers throughout the summer.
Volunteers are needed to help plant Portage’s canoe and butterfly structures outside city hall, finish the peacock and other topiary pieces at Bronson Park, and pull of grass, weeds, and other old flowers to prepare the beds.

No gardening experience is required to help, but volunteers should wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty.
