KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — There was more flooding as the Crosstown Parkway ponds overflowed onto Crosstown and Park Street after heavy rains over the weekend and into Monday morning, but by the afternoon, most of it had receded.
It closed Park and Crosstown during the afternoon drive yesterday. Then it rained again overnight.
The Department of Public Service says these streets are currently closed.
Forest Street between Park Street and Rose Street
Park Street between Crosstown Parkway and Forest Street
Crosstown Parkway between Rose Street and Park Street
Dutton Street between Portage Street and Jasper Street
The City has plans this year to clear out some of the storm sewer lines in the area that have silted in and slowed the flow of water from the area, thanks to funding from the Foundation for Excellence and that may help.
Officials with the Road Commission of Kalamazoo County say drivers should never drive into high water, and turn around immediately.
Managing Director Joanna Johnson says the leading cause of flooding is usually blocked storm drains, so residents should double check catch basins near their homes and make sure they are free of leaves, sticks, rocks, and other debris.
