DEARBORN (WKZO AM/FM) — There are reports that some stations in West Michigan have gone over the $3-mark , charging $3.09/gallon for self-serve regular, the first time prices have been this high in several years.
The state average is at nearly two-dollars-97 cents, up 15-cents from a week ago.
Gas Buddy’s Patrick DeHaan says it’s not clear if the other stations will follow those that have broken the three dollar barrier this week.
He says he wouldn’t be surprised if prices went up one more time just before the holiday weekend.
AAA is blaming summer fuel blends, increased demand, and the Trump Administration’s decision to impose sanctions on Iran again as they back out of the nuclear disarmament deal as the reasons for the increases.
But DeHaan says a spike to over 70-dollars a barrel for crude oil is the main culprit in the jump.
