HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A big announcement is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Civic Center Place, 150 W. Eighth St.
Heart of the Community Campaign co-chairs Nathan Bocks and Cindy Pocock, with Holland Mayor Nancy De Boer, will kick off the public fundraising effort and announce a major gift to aid in the $14.15 million civic center renovation.
The news comes from a statement emailed from the city to the media.
As part of the announcement, city officials will deliver an update on the reconstruction project.
The Holland Civic Center has evolved over nearly 60 years into a base for afternoon and evening recreation, a place for high school and college basketball games, small concerts, annual shows featuring dolls, guns, rocks and gems, and served as a Tulip Time Festival food, gift, craft and dance venue.
The civic center’s parking lot has served as the base for Tulip Time’s carnival, the city’s farmers market and a host of other outdoor events, from Holland Public Safety Department’s junior police academy to concerts and dozens of car shows.
The city has designated $10,000 for a civic center opening celebration set for this fall, after construction is finished, according to city documents.
