LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo man has been charged with open murder and six other felonies in Lansing after a shooting and a clumsy attempt to escape that police say left a trail of crime, destruction and injuries behind.
Investigators believe it began with a domestic dispute that ended with the shooting death of Lawrence McDonald Jr. at a home on Lansing’s northeast side.
They claim 32-year-old Michael Burton fled the scene in a car that crashed in the median of US 127 Thursday. A good Samaritan stopped to held, and police say that Burton carjacked that vehicle at gunpoint, assaulting the driver before he left.
That car was spotted and stopped and Burton arrested.
He is charged with multiple weapons and fleeing and eluding counts as well as being a habitual offender.
He is being held without bond.
