EAST LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A new poll shows if the vote was held today, pot would be legalized, gerrymandering would no longer be practiced in Michigan, and we would have a female Governor.
The survey conducted by the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research at Michigan State University shows nearly two to one support for recreational use of marijuana. 53% would vote for redistricting reform with 34% against and the rest are undecided.
The high percentage of undecided voters in the Governor’s race also suggests that many voters have not yet engaged themselves in this election cycle.
Currently the numbers suggest that Gretchen Whitmer would win if either Bill Schuette or Brian Calley are the winners of the GOP primary in August. Whitmer would also have to win her primary.
The IPPSR results show Whitmer with 42% of the vote, and Calley getting 34 percent. In a match with Attorney General Bill Schuette, the data shows Whitmer ahead by a narrower margin, 41 to 35% but still beyond the margin of error.
But MSU pollster Charles Ballard says with 24% of the respondents in the poll saying they are still undecided, it could be anybody’s race.
