LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — There was more testimony on the Sexual abuse package yesterday in the Michigan House and there will be more today. In fact the Chair of the Committee, Klint Kesto says he is looking at two to three more weeks to give all his members a chance to ask questions.
The package is meant to address the issues created by the Larry Nassar Scandal.
There continues to be opposition to bills that would extend the statute of limitations for sex crimes well into adulthood. Survivor Rachel Denhollander of Kalamazoo and two other survivors testified yesterday in defense of the proposed legislation.
They say that currently by the time a victim realizes what happened to them as a child and work up the nerve to do something about it, it’s usually too late.
But some committee members say that would mean sticking taxpayers with the bill for the misdeeds of a few individuals, because it would be institutions, and not the individuals who will be sued.
State Senator Margaret O’Brien is due to go to bat for the bills during hearings today.
