HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Gov. Rick Snyder will visit Holland today, to keynote the Tulip Time Festival luncheon, making the opening of Michigan’s tourism season.
Gov. Snyder will don wooden shoes after lunch to lead off the Metal Flow Volksparade — the people’s parade — starting the a 1:30 p.m. white glove inspection and scrubbing of Eighth street
At the tail end of the parade, you may want to look out for dogs like the one owned by the Tilton family of Holland — Sophie has her own Dutch costume, something Becky Tilton whipped up with her daughter Taylor during an April snow day.
Taylor Tilton will be in the parade with a combined Zeeland East and West high school group, wearing a Staphorst costume that matches Sophie’s.
Elsewhere in Holland today:
The Michigan Maritime Museum’s Great Lakes sloop replica from 1810, Friends Good Will, is set to sail into town, docking at Boatwekrs though Sunday.
There’s a Dutch dance style show; Art in Bloom and quilt displays at the Holland Area Arts Council; and Tulip City Tours.
The carnival at the Civic Center lot runs from 2-9 p.m. For complete details, visit the Tulip Time Festival event page..
