BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek firefighters responded to a report of a fire at Johnson Controls on Armstrong Road in the Fort Custer Industrial Park just after noon Sunday and found that maintenance staff had already addressed a fire that broke out in a press machine.
A welder was doing work on the machine when welding blankets ignited. One worker was treated at the scene for a mild case of smoke inhalation.
Fire crews helped ventilate the smoke.
They estimate the damage to the machine at about $10,000.
