LEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in Allegan County.
It happened just before 6 a.m. Monday on 109th Avenue at 55th Street in Lee Township.
Investigators say the 20-year-old driver encountered the biker, who was wearing dark clothes in the roadway and attempted to stop, but she was unable to, and hit the victim.
34-year-old biker Guadalupe Garcia was unresponsive after the crash and airlifted to Bronson hospital.
Family members arrived on scene and said the victim is learning impaired and leaves their home at various times for walks, sometimes without them knowing.
The incident is still under investigation.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is reminding drivers to be extra cautiou as the weather gets warmer and more cyclists and pedestrians hit the streets.
