KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The winners in the shorter races include Matthew Melvin of Saline who won the 5k and Makenzie Zeigler of Richland who won the woman’s competition.
Brendon Molony of Kalamazoo was the winner of the 10k and Lauren Arquette of Canton Michigan was the women’s champion.
It was a family affair in the half-marathon, Kyle and Ashley Mena, a married couple originally from Kalamazoo who now run and live in Boulder, Colorado were the winners.
Evan Williams of Portage, who now lives in Seattle defended his championship from last year to once again win the 2018 Kalamazoo Marathon. The Women’s Champion is Gull Lake graduate Natalie Patterson, who now lives in Washington won her first marathon in just under 3-hours.
Thousands of runners with various skill levels and racing speeds were all winners in one way or another, if only for the health benefits of participating in run camps or running individually.

This year all the runners recieved medals at the finish line this year, giving everyone a memento to remember the event.
It took 1,700 volunteers to pull off the event which includes not only staffing the start/finish line, but water stations and other locations along the route, organizing the running camps, the Expo event on Saturday and all the other things it takes to put on a major race like this.
