KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo woman accused of causing a crash that killed a 1-year-old and injured a 2-year-old will spend 1 year in prison and 5 years of probation for driving on a suspended license causing death.
Prosecutors say 24-year-old Shaniqua DeFrance ran a stop sign at the corner of North and Rose Streets and struck a mini-van driven by Minion Clopton, who had her three children in the vehicle unrestrained.
1-year-old Desani Colbert was ejected from the vehicle and killed and her two year old sister was injured.
A makeshift memorial remains at the intersection.
In addition, Clopton was given probation for 3rd degree child abuse for not using proper car seats.
