DETROIT (WKZO AM/FM) — A bill proposed by Representative Brandt Iden of Oshtemo to legalize online gambling in Michigan is drawing some heavy fire from a state health official, and the Detroit News.
Iden’s proposal would authorize the state’s gambling casinos to operate online gaming.
The legislation cleared committee some months ago, but has yet to come up for a vote in the full House.
But Alia Lucas, who oversees gambling treatment programs for the State Department of Health and Human Services says people who are problem gamblers are going to have bigger problems, and there is no way to keep kids off these programs.
The Detroit News alleges that the bills are unconstitutional because any new form of gambling has to be approved by voters, and they say this is a new form of gambling.
