MARENGO TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — Charges may be sought against a 25-year-old Marshall man who may be responsible for causing a fatal crash at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.
It happened on Westbound I-94 in Calhoun County’s Marengo Township.
Deputies say the suspect was traveling at a higher rate of speed than a pick-up that was traveling in the same direction.
The suspect’s mini-van struck the pickup in the rear, sending it out of control and careening into a large traffic sign and then into a tree.
The driver of the pickup, a 54-year-old man from Battle Creek, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the mini-van was treated for minor injuries at a Jackson hospital.
Deputies say speed and substance abuse may have been involved.
