PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — Portage Public Safety officials are investigating after burglars robbed a jewelry store.
The break in occurred sometime between the time the store closed on Saturday and early Sunday afternoon at the Medawar Jewelers on South Westnedge Avenue.
It’s believed the robbers knew what they were doing and carefully planned the heist.
Investigators say the robbers cut through the walls and plumbing of two adjoining businesses to get into the jewelry shop.
They broke into the safe where merchandise was kept, but did not get at items that were dropped off for repairs.
The owners are estimating that the jewel thieves got away with merchandise worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Portage detectives hope to release more information when they have it. For now they are asking for the public’s help with any clues.
No arrests so far.
