KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A workshop is planned in Kalamazoo to help citizens learn the difference between an Assistance Animal and an Emotional Support Animal.
The free workshop, entitled “Do’s & Don’ts: Assistance Animals,” is being hosted by Disability Network Southwest Michigan.
The organization says the need for such a workshop is to address the confusion between the two animal categories.
“In this workshop, participants will learn about specific laws regarding what type of assistance animals are allowed in different places and whether an establishment can deny access to an assistance animal,” officials said in a statement.
The event is free; however, pre-registration is advised by contacting Miranda Grunwell at grunwellm@dnswm.org or (269) 345-1516 x120.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. at Disability Network’s office, located at 517 E. Crosstown Parkway in Kalamazoo. Officials say that this is a fragrance-free event and to refrain from wearing perfume, cologne or other scented products.
Disability Network was founded in 1981 and is “focused on creating communities that value disability as human diversity.”
