KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — There’s no business like show business and the Lion King did big business in Kalamazoo.
Miller Auditorium says the two week engagement broke their box office record for touring Broadway shows, entertaining more than 52,000 patrons.
They say the 16-shows they did at Miller grossed over $3.4-million.
Using a standard industry formula, they estimate that it injected about $11-million dollars into the Kalamazoo economy, when you figure in parking, restaurant and hotel bills and other spending by patrons and the production staff.
“It was an honor and a privilege to host The Lion King at Miller Auditorium for its West Michigan premiere,” said Tracey Lawie, Director of Marketing. “The excitement of sharing this phenomenal show with sold-out houses every night was amazing. It was especially rewarding to see not only our veteran subscribers, but to introduce an entirely new generation of theatregoers to Broadway.”
