BOSTON, MA (WKZO AM/FM) — For the first time in 33 years an American woman has won the Boston Marathon.
It took a Michigander, and a two time Olympian who is probably used to running in cold, wet, horrible conditions to out distance the rest of the field on a cold, wet and horrible day in Bean Town.
Desiree Linden, who trains in the Rochester area outside of Detroit. came across the finish line in just under two hours and a 40 minutes. She runs most years and nearly won it a few years ago.
The former Olympian says she wasn’t even sure that she was going to be able to finish the race this year.
The last American woman to win the Boston Marathon was also from Michigan.
Lisa Larsen Weidenbach of Battle Creek agrees the weather here gives runners from Michigan an advantage when race days are rotten.
