PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — The search for a car-thief triggered a “lock-up” at Portage Northern High School just after 9:00 a.m. Thursday.
A patrol officer spotted a stolen vehicle near West Milham Avenue and Oakland Drive and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled away at a high rate of speed.
It was later found abandoned in a wooded area at the dead end on Mt. Vernon Avenue, near the High School’s campus.
The School Resource officer was notified, outside doors were secured at the school but classes continued.
That’s what they call a “lock-up”. A “lock-down” requires additional and more disruptive security measures take place.
The suspect, described as a black male in his early 20’s was not located.
