KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Two men are now facing charges in connection to the death of a Kent County teen whose body was found in Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo, Kent County, and Grand Rapids officials held a press conference Wednesday afternoon announcing the formal charges for former Kentwood Public Schools worker Quinn James and Detroit native Gerald Bennett in the death of 16-year-old Mujey Dumbuya.
Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker says James is charged with first degree premeditated murder, felony murder, and conspiracy to commit first degree murder, while Bennett also faces conspiracy to commit first degree murder and a perjury charge.
Based on his charges, James could face up to life in prison.
Officials released very little information about the case and did not explain how Dumbuya’s body ended up in Kalamazoo.
The East Kentwood High School student went missing after walking to the bus stop in Kent County and was discovered 4 days later in a wooded area in the West Douglas neighborhood back in January.
Becker reinterated that there is no timeline on the case as the investigation is still ongoing.
