FLINT (WKZO AM/FM) — Governor Rick Snyder has decided to end new deliveries of state funded bottled water to the city of Flint.
He says the tap water being piped to 90% of the homes has exceeded federal standards for two years now.
Once the current supply of bottled water on the ground runs out, that’s it.
They will continue to make filters available for free while service replacement line work is underway.
Snyder says the state has poured $350-million into Flint and the federal government has spent $100-million. He says the state remains dedicated to helping the people of Flint recover from the water crisis.
Congressman Dan Kildee says the state should continue to provide water until all the construction is done, because people their still don’t trust the government is telling them the truth about the water quality.
State Senator Jim Ananich calls it outrageous.
Dr. Pamela Pugh, the chief public health advisor for Flint, still thinks there is a need for bottled water for special populations, like breast feeding mothers.
Flint Mayor Karen Weaver calls it insensitive and says they got absolutely no notice that the decision was coming.
The Flint decision follows by days the DEQ’s controversial decision to let Nestles pump more water from a west Michigan well despite overwhelming opposition from citizens.
Democrats are seizing on the the issue, claiming that once again the GOP is putting money and buisness first and people second.
