KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A 36-year-old Kalamazoo man suffered life threatening injuries, and had to be rescued from the burning wreckage of his vehicle Thursday afternoon.
Kalamazoo County Deputies say the man, whose name has not been released, was headed east on East H Avenue at about 4 p.m. when he crossed the center line, went off the pavement, and slammed into a tree.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
They suspect the driver may have just fallen asleep at the wheel.
Responding Comstock fire fighters grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the flames, and then pried the driver out of the wreck.
He was rushed to Borgess Medical Center where he was admitted in critical condition.
