KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo County Board may join other communities suing the drug companies who they claim lied about the addictive nature of opioid pain killers and may have cost thousands of Americans their lives.
Commissioner Julie Rogers says the Opioid task force will work with the administration to come up with cost estimates, and how much work staff will have to do.
She says the task force will meet soon and come up with a recommendation.
However, some Commissioners fear it may offend Pfizer, a major player in the local economy, but Commissioner Michael Seals says until they actually hear from Pfizer, or someone comes to a meeting to object, they should not assume there is a problem.
A lively debate left a number of questions unanswered for some commissioners and some members of the public who lost loved ones spoke at the meeting, and supported joining the lawsuit.
A vote could come in a few weeks to a month.
