SAN ANTONIO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Wolverines took an early lead but couldn’t hold it as the Villanova Wildcats are the champions of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, winning 79-62 in San Antonio. It’s the second national title for Villanova in the last three seasons.
Donte DiVincenzo scored 31 points off the bench for the Wildcats giving them the spark they needed to take over and run away with the game.
Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman was the high scorer for Michigan with 23 points.
Head Coach John Beilein says Villanova was too much at both ends of the court and certainly the better team last night.
But Michigan may have done more to exceed expectations. At the beginning of the season, it was Michigan State that everyone picked to go all the way. The Wolverines weren’t even ranked.
