HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — High winds predicted for the Lakeshore could knock down power lines, according to the National Weather Service. Holland Board of Public Works and Consumers Energy offer the following safety tips, in the event you spot a downed wire:
- Always assume a power line is energized. Holland BPW advises staying at least 10 feet away from the line and anything it may be touching.
- If the line falls on your vehicle or house, stay inside. Getting out could put you in danger.
- Never try to move a downed power line.
- Never touch a person or object in direct or indirect contact with a downed power line.
To alert Consumers Enegery, the company advises calling 911 first and the company’s 24-hour emergency line, (800) 477-5050.
Holland BPW’s emergency line is (616) 355-1500.
