WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO AM/FM) – As many prepare for a weekend of Easter festivities, the United State Department of Agriculture is reminding families to follow food safety rules.
Food Safety Expert Luis Delgadillo says cooks must always follow the 4 steps of food preparation: Clean, Separate, Cook, and Chill.
Families should be especially careful while handling eggs. Delgadillo says any food, including coloring Easter eggs, should not be left out and not chilled for more than 2 hours.
In fact 1 in 6 Americans fall ill from a food-borne illness every year due to improper food handling.
More food safety information can be found on the USDA’s website.
