ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Students at Allegan County high schools involved in the campaign to promote gun control are not happy with State Senator Tonya Schuitmaker for dismissing their efforts to promote gun control in the wake of the shootings at Stoneman-Douglas High School.
Shuitmaker was critical of the adults who let walk-outs occur at area schools, saying they would accomplish nothing.
Martin High School Senior Class President Austin Marsman announced Wednesday that they are now demanding that Shuitmaker resign from her State Senate seat and withdraw her name from the race for Attorney General, but that is not likely.
Schuitmaker, who is prominently shown toting around pistols and shotguns, target practicing in her campaign video for Attorney General says instead of walking out, they should ‘walk up’ to a bullied or marginalized classmate in the lunch room and make friends.
