KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s been about ten months since police say that Michael Spencer drove his car into the front of a Metro Transit Bus at the intersection of Michigan and South.
He was reportedly intoxicated and traveling at over 100 mph at the time. He has finally been formally charged with reckless driving causing serious impairment, and is being held in the Kalamazoo County Jail on $20,000 bond.
Bus Driver Lashon Diallo lost one of her legs and several passengers suffered injuries.
charges were issued last year, but Spencer was not arrested until Friday.
Why the delay? It’s become common practice not to charge injured suspects, and require that taxpayers incur the cost of their medical care. If they can, local authorities wait until the suspect has recovered and then begin prosecution.
