LANSING, MI (WTVB) – State Senator Mike Shirkey wants to modify the Healthy Michigan expansion of Medicaid to require some people receiving their health care through the program work toward a career. Shirkey has introduced legislation to require an able-bodied recipient of Healthy Michigan to spend up to 30 hours a week at school, training for work, or working.
Shirkey says his proposal would include frequent audits.
He hopes to get a committee hearing on his plan sometime this spring.
Shirkey voted for the Healthy Michigan expansion under the Affordable Care Act, which offers Medicaid to people with a household income at or below 133-percent of the poverty level.
