BROADVIEW, iLLINOIS (WKZO AM/FM) — It was standing room only as hundreds turned out for the funeral of James and Diva Davis at the Broadview Missionary Baptist Church in Suburban Chicago on Saturday.
They are the parents of Central Michigan University student James Davis Jr. who for reasons that have not yet been discerned, shot them to death in his dorm room last Friday after escaping from a mental ward at a local hospital.
Friends and family remained stunned at the turn of events, no one able to explain what might have prompted the young man to obtain his father’s revolver and use it to kill them.
James Davis Senior was a part-time Police Officer with the Bellwood, Illinois Police Department, his wife was a flight attendant.
The funeral had more than its share of police officers present and a Department Honor Guard.
James Davis Jr. was transferred over the weekend from a hospital to the Isabella County Jail.
He is being held on $1.25-million bond on two counts of open murder and a gun felony.
His preliminary exam is set for this Friday, but it may be delayed if his attorney asks for a mental competency exam. He seemed confused and distracted during his arraignment.
