KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A sexual assault on a 13-year-old girl in the Edison neighborhood that shocked the Kalamazoo Community has now resulted in a guilty verdict.
Dontrel Williams was charged with five counts, including kidnapping and first degree criminal sexual conduct for snatching the young girl off the street as she waited for a bus, taking her to his home on Clinton Street and assaulting her last May.
The defense argued that the girl went willingly and was exploring her sexuality, but the jury didn’t buy that and took less than two hours to return guilty verdicts on all five charges.
You may remember the case because victim was left alone long enough to use a cell phone to call police and direct them to the home where she was being held.
The 39-year-old Williams had no prior criminal record. He faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced.
