VICKSBURG (WKZO AM/FM) — More students in the Kalamazoo area are walking out against gun violence.
Students at Vicksburg Middle School held a 17 minute walkout Tuesday morning for the 17 victims killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Students held signs that said “student safety” and “fear has no place in school.”
The walkout comes after a Vicksburg High School student was arrested last week after making a threat against the school.
Walkouts have taken place nationwide pushing for a change in gun control and a hope for more mental health resources in schools.
Several schools in Southwest Michigan have had copycat threats, some credible and some not, after Nikolas Cruz opened fire in Florida on Valentine’s Day. He is charged with 17 counts of murder.
