LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Portage State Senator Margaret O’Brien plans to release a package of legislation drafted for her and other lawmakers to close the gaps in the system that former MSU Dr. Larry Nassar exploited for years to avoid charges.
They will be proposing that coaches in all sports be required to report Sexual Abuse, whenever they see it, and increasing the penalties if they don’t, and eliminating Governmental Immunity for public institutions in Sex Abuse cases.
She says these fill the gaps revealed so far by news coverage of the scandal.
She anticipates more bills will be proposed after the investigations are completed.
Several of the survivors of the Nassar scandal have participated in the research behind the bills will also appear at this afternoon’s news conference at the State Capitol.
