ALLEGAN COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — Consumers Energy says that they planned to pull the plug on about 2,000 customers south of Allegan very early Saturday for a couple of hours, beginning at 2 am, but those plans have now been put off.
Given the massive flooding in the region, they have instead put repair crews on assignment to handle any power problems that may arise from rising waters.
Its not unusual to have homes threatened by flooding disconneted from the power grid and from gas service to avoid shorts that can lead to fires.
They still need to make repairs to equipment that stopped functioning earlier this week at the substation in Trowbridge Township and they can’t do it safely while the power is on.
That work will be scheduled at a future date yet to be determined.
