LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — A proposal to spend $175-million left over from last year on roads sailed through the Michigan House on a unanimous vote yesterday.
Timed to coincide with pothole season, lawmakers say the allocation of funds is just what voters have demanded.
But Jeff Mason with the Michigan Economic Development Corp. says it’s not nearly enough.
He says several studies have shown that the state needs to spend at least $4-billion annually to maintain and upgrade the state’s roadways.
Democrats proposed taking $150-million out of the rainy day fund to expand infrastructure improvements even more but that amendment was defeated.
