OTSEGO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Otsego schools will close today after threats made on social media, even though an investigation by Plainwell Public Safety determined the threat was not credible.
The threat reportedly targeted both Otsego and Plainwell schools but Plainwell has decided they will hold classes with beefed up security.
It’s the latest in a series of similar allegations that have resulted in arrests in Lawrence, Gobles, Manistee, and already once in Otsego, and represents the dark side of student reaction to the school shooting in Florida.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Rick Fuller says these copycat events happen every time there is a school shooting. He says they have gotten very good at identifying and arresting the teens who make threats.
Two students at Portage Community School are also being held at the Juvenile Home for allegedly making threats.
A student in the South Lyon School district is being held on a $10-million bond, and facing up to 20-years on terrorism charges for Snapchatting a friend, asking if he wanted to “reenact the Florida shooting”.
The cases all remain under investigation.
