JACKSON (WKZO AM/FM) — A major utility company is announcing big plans towards a clean energy initiative.
Named the most sustainable utility in the nation for two years running, Consumers Energy’s President and CEO Patti Poppe says they are still pushing forward.
In an announcement Monday, Poppe said the company plans to cut carbon emissions by 80 percent and no longer use coal by 2040.
The company also said that more than 40 percent of the energy produced will come from renewable sources and energy storage by 2040.
Poppe explained how it’s Consumers Energy’s goal to address climate change, protect the planet, and put the company and Michigan on the right side of history.
The Michigan utility company has already closed 7 of its 12 coal-fire power plants and plans to eventually phase out the others.
