SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It took nearly three and a half years, but three suspects from Battle Creek are now in custody and arraigned in the death of a 56-year-old man in a Bloomingdale home.
Open murder, armed robbery and felony firearm charges were formally filed in South Haven District Court against 42-year-old Amber Marie Roberts, 40-year-old James Robert Eakins and 32-year-old Brandon Trae Robertson involving the slaying of Scott Michael Taylor Sr. in a residence off of 45th Street. The three were arrested over an 11-day period that began two weeks ago with the help of the Michigan State Police, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Battle Creek Police Department.
The victim’s son and a family friend had found Taylor unresponsive in the early morning hours of August 21st, 2014, and after an autopsy, the cause of death came from a single gunshot wound to the chest. A “person of interest” that was an acquaintance of the victim had been identified shortly after the incident, but no arrests were made at the time. No motive has been disclosed thus far, and no details as to the circumstances that led to these arrests were immediately revealed.
Roberts, Eakins and Robertson are being held at the Van Buren County Jail in Paw Paw without bond.
