LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says they have recorded their first pediatric flu death of the season.
Little personal information about patient is given out. The department is only saying that it was a minor from the Upper Peninsula that died from complications of the flu.
We won’t know until the United States Centers for Disease Control comes out with their weekly report tomorrow how high the pediatric death rate has risen in the last week, but there have been a number of reported deaths since.
The CDC is issuing a new warning that children with asthma should get shots immediately. Acting Director Ann Suchat says it’s the underlying and chronic problems that cause deaths and complications with the flu, and children are less likely to have the heart, lung and other health problems that are killing off elderly flu sufferers, but many do have asthma.
