ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – “No charges will be authorized in this case.”
That’s the word from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday as it concluded an investigation into a January 25th report of a dead domestic cat in a “live” trap on the grounds of the Sandy Pines Resort and Campground. A county animal control officer confirmed the report, but found no other animals in any traps on the property and notified Sandy Pines officials about the incident. The feline was reportedly a pet which belonged to one of the neighboring residents that had apparently roamed away from its home.
Following “a detailed investigation” by the sheriff’s office that included numerous interviews with witnesses, the case was turned over to the county prosecutor’s office, who determined that no one person was solely responsible for not tending to or checking the trap in question at the time the incident occurred. The resort staff has been briefed on how to improve animal trapping to “hopefully keep this from happening again.”
