COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — The man who hit and killed a Comstock Township fire chief last year is now going to jail.
On Monday, Brandon Clevenger was sentenced to 3.5 to 15 years in prison after crashing into Chief Ed Switalski who was responding to a crash on I-94 back in June of 2017.
Clevenger was distracted with his phone, speeding, and had marijuana in his system when he lost control of the vehicle, crossing highway lanes and killing Chief Switalski.
He takes full responsibility for the incident.
The punishment is harsher than sentencing guidelines, which would have been between 29 and 57 months in prison.
