(WKZO AM/FM) — Today is National Wear Red Day, a day to get educated and give back to help end heart disease and stroke.
The Senate formally adopted a resolution that proclaims February 2018 as American Heart Month and February 2nd 2018 as “Go Red for Women Day.”
The American Heart Association says heart disease kills one in three women or approximately one woman every minute.
The non-profit organization is not only asking men and women to wear red, but they’re also reminding people to know the signs of a heart attack.
Health officials say a heart attack does not always have obvious symptoms, such chest pain, shortness of breath and cold sweats, but it can actually happen without a person knowing it.
Go Red for Women Director for the American Heart Association in Southwest Michigan Kimberly Earnshaw says patients should get their blood pressure taken regularly and correctly as well as their cholesterol numbers, blood sugar levels and their body mass index.
