MUSKEGON, MI (WTVB) -The Michigan Department of Corrections is closing the West Shoreline Corrections Facility in Muskegon due to a reduction in the number of prison inmates in the state.
A total of 174 jobs are being eliminated nearly 1,200 prisoners will have to be transferred to other facilities.
Michigan Department of Corrections spokesperson Chris Gautz says there are other placement services that are being provided.
The March 24, 2018 shutdown will trim about $10-million from the corrections department budget this year and $19-million next year.
