GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The first town hall meeting of the 2018 Michigan Gubernatorial campaign is tonight.
Three of the four leading candidates for the Republican Party nomination will be taking questions from audience members during a 90-minute session at the Kent County GOP Headquarters off of Lake Michigan Drive in Grand Rapids, led by Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley, who claims that he isn’t just trying to maintain what Governor Rick Snyder started eight years ago. “There are plans that we can put in place in order to make sure that Michigan keeps on growing,” the Portland Republican said. “It’s really about our people and making sure they’re ready to compete and win in the 21st Century global economy.”
State Senator Patrick Colbeck of suburban Detroit wants to branch out in a new direction. “We need to aim higher than what we’ve done over the last seven years, and definately higher than what we’ve done the decade previous to that,” he said. “It means that we should take on some challenges that some people say aren’t possible to do and actually prove them wrong.”
Saginaw-based physician Jim Hines will also attend the 7 PM session, but not Attorney General Bill Schuette, who was leading in the latest polling for the GOP nomination.
