ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The current Hepatitis A outbreak centered in Southeast Michigan has reached the Lakeshore with Friday’s announcement that an Allegan County resident has come down with the disease.
The case has been linked to over 700 cases of people being infected by Hepatitis A statewide, with more than 150 of those in metro Detroit, and 24 deaths reported. The victim “is not considered to be at high risk of spreading Hepatitis A to others at this time,” according to Allegan County Health Department, who didn’t identify the victim or give any other details as to the circumstances that led to the affliction, but used the announcement more as a vehicle to describe what Hepatitis A is about, along with its risk factors and symptoms.
According to the state Department of Health and Human Services, there have also been cases reported in Kent and Van Buren counties.
