EAST LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon has turned in her resignation after Michigan’s two U.S. Senators called for her to quit and the State House of Representatives approved a resolution making the same request. They were just the latest to call for her departure.
In her resignation letter Simon says “The last year and a half has been very difficult for the victims of Larry Nassar, for the university community, and for me personally. To the survivors, I can never say enough that I am so sorry that a trusted, renowned physician was really such an evil, evil person who inflicted such harm under the guise of medical treatment.”
You can read the entire letter which was posted online.
Simon says she originally planned to announce her retirement in December 2016 when the first allegations about Nassar surfaced and she set aside her plans.
“As tragedies are politicized, blame is inevitable, As president, it is only natural that I am the focus of this anger.” MSU Board President Brian Breslin has also posted a statement saying that the MSU Board of Trustees had accepted her resignation stating “We agree with Dr. Simon that it is now time for change.”
