KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Bronson Healthcare has issued a statement on the incarceration of one of their doctors by Immigration Agents last week.
While they say they respect the law, they are doing everything they can to to advocate for Dr. Lukasz Niec, a native of Poland working in the U.S. on a Green Card.
They have been in contact with the family’s attorney and elected representatives to explore all options. He is apparently being held for possible deportation for two misdemeanor convictions 26-years ago, when he was just a teen.
The Hospital says his detention in the Calhoun County Jail does not make sense, given all that he has contributed to patient care, and the ongoing need for his continued service.
His colleagues say the flu season has put all hands on deck.
Bronson Healthcare says it’s in the community’s best interest that he be allowed to return to work and his family as soon as possible.
