LEONIDAS TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — Foggy Conditions and too much speed are being blamed for a fatal crash late Sunday afternoon in St. Joseph County.
The crash may result in charges against a driver in a Dodge sedan who investigators say did not see a stop sign and at Pleasant and Summit Roads, and slammed into a Jeep SUV that was sent careening into a tree.
The driver of the jeep, 60-year-old Mark Russell of Mendon, died at the scene in Leonidas Township.
The at fault driver, a 27-year-old from Kendallville, Indiana and a female passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries in the 5 pm crash, and were transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment.
St. Joseph County Sheriff Bradley Balk says charges may be requested against the Indiana man, pending the outcome of the investigation.
